The Project SAFE Place Capital Campaign seeks to raise $5 million in order to expand all services on a new, consolidated
Jim and Jan Moran Family Center located in Deerfield Beach – set to open later in 2010.
Currently, Women In Distress (WID) is only able to shelter one out of every three domestic violence victims in need because
shelter space is at or over capacity. To address the increased needs of our growing community, WID has embarked on the
largest capital expansion program in the history of the organization. Emergency shelter will increase from 62 beds to 100
initially – with the capacity to grow to 132 beds. In addition to increased shelter space, WID will now have room available
for special enhancements such as a medical clinic, family therapy room, Broward Sheriff’s Office substation, shelter
for teen boys, and much more!
Moran Challenge Grant
Your support of the Project SAFE Place Capital Campaign can be greater than you think. Philanthropist Jan Moran is
continuing her commitment, and that of her late husband Jim, to helping victims of domestic abuse through the
Moran Challenge Grant. Click Here to learn how your donation can be matched in 2010.
100 Men Initiative
In support of the Project SAFE Place Capital Campaign, the “100 Men Initiative” has been established as a unique coming
together of 100 men and community members, each making a $1,000 contribution to sponsor 100 beds at the new campus.
“After learning more about the mission and therefore the importance of Women In Distress, I just couldn’t turn my head and walk away from doing all I can to help families affected by domestic violence,” said Bill Mahoney of Mahoney & Associates, also the first donor of the 100 MEN Initiative.
